Scholarships & Auditions
There are several local opportunities for kids to play music and find funding to supplement music lessons.

Besides offering youth band groups in popular music genres, Stillwater/Be Frank provides intro- and intermediate-level afterschool string orchestras in Durango and Bayfield. Be Frank also has some advanced and specialized groups (like Steezy Strings for fiddle styles) and summer strings camps. Scholarships available.

For intermediate and advanced students who want the experience of playing in a symphony orchestra, the SJSYO program holds placement auditions and rehearses once a week during the school year (in both Durango and Farmington). This is a great opportunity for serious players from elementary school to high school and even college. SJS also sponsors summer camps, side-by-side performances with the adult symphony, free student tickets to SJS concerts in Durango and Farmington, and a Young Artists concerto competition. Scholarships available.

Music in the Mountains offers two scholarships, the Youth Ambassador and Juilliard Online Extension Class Scholarships. It also hosts a Violin Academy, a student showcase concert called Take a Bow, an annual Family Concert, and a free student ticket program.

The San Juan Symphony subsidizes scholarships to help students pay for private lessons!
