Violin Solos, Viola Solos, and Technique and Scales contain links to YouTube videos of violin and viola solos, as well as technical tutorials. Most are non-professional performances and are provided as educational aids only.

​The solos are grouped by ASTA level, which usually corresponds to the number of years of study on the instrument (students who practice effectively and regularly may move faster through the levels). Each level shows higher technical and musical development. ​

Level 2

• low 2nd finger, high 3rd finger, low 1st finger, more use of 4th finger

• slurs, hooked bowing, double up-bows

• dotted rhythms​

Level 3

• good tone production

• introductory 3rd position

• musicality; introductory vibrato​

Level 4

• confident use of 3rd position and some vibrato

• beginning 5th position

• off-the-string bowing

• confident use of 2nd, 5th, and other positions
